Discipleship Movements
Mentoring a New Generation
Discipleship is the ultimate challenge. Winning and discipling a whole new generation is our responsibility!
It will take: New perspective, New commitment and a Common plan
Go where they are (geographic) We can’t expect inquirers to come to a completely foreign environment like our churches, we need to go where they are; at work, at home, at school, in coffee shops or at McDonald’s. We must research to see where we (the church) are not and where we should plant small groups.
Every sphere of society (demographic) Christianity has been mostly contained within church structures. The gospel must permeate every aspect of society through devoted disciples of Jesus. These arenas of life need the creativity and impact of the good news: family, church, education, business, science & technology, government, arts & media.
Speak their language The Gospel has not changed in 2000 years – Jesus used different parables in different environments to impart truth in a way people could understand & relate to. Today the message is the same, but we must package it differently in order to reach different cultural groups, such as skaters, art lovers, etc.
Every believer – a discipler Most Christians (90+%) have not actually won another person to the Lord Jesus. Even less have ever mentored another in their faith. We must evangelize afresh the heart of believers to grasp their true calling as a disciple of Jesus.
Recruit & train We must intentionally recruit and train as many Christians as possible to take up the challenge of discipleship. In order to disciple others we must be discipled ourselves – so part of the training would be to provide an ongoing discipling small group for every discipler. This will model the process they are taking others through.
Work alongside a new evangelistic thrust The ultimate goal is to see lives changed and people added to the Kingdom. This is a long-term process and a relationship issue. Impact World Tour is a catalytic event that helps you kick start that process, reaching this generation with the Gospel in a way they will respond.
A movement of discipleship - viral, contagious, grassroots, where people live!
The following processes and infrastructure are designed to assist churches in developing a community-wide strategy for discipleship.
