Citywide Prayer Events Captain

here I amCitywide prayer gatherings should be organized to bring together the body of Christ. The aim should be to have one gathering per month. These gatherings may take several different forms, and it is good to have variety each month.
  • Looking at the calendar, plan citywide prayer event dates for the duration of the Preparation Phase and after the Tour. To make it easier for people to remember the dates, try to set the events for the same day and time each month (e.g. the 3rd Sunday at 3:00pm). Submit the proposed dates to the IWT Coordinator for approval and to check for any conflicts.
  • Once the dates are approved, coordinate the place for each event. The events should be at different churches, schools, and parks spread across the entire city.
  • Plan the theme/focus of each month’s events. Be creative. Some ideas include but are not limited to:
    • Schools/youth – Have the event outside the local schools.
    • Prayer Walk – Meet at a central location and send groups out to pre-determined sections of town. Try to pray through every street!
    • Worship – Invite a worship team and have a time of worship and prayer.
    • Prayer – No ruffles and lace, just prayer. Have a list of prayer needs and take time praying in groups, pairs, individually, and corporately.
    • Individuals, Families, and Businesses – Pray through the phonebook or school yearbook.
    • Venue – If able, have a prayer time at the venue.
    • Make posters with the names of each of the teams and post them around the room. Allow people to go around and pray individually or in groups.
    • Pastors Prayer Meeting - organize participating church pastors and leaders to meet regularly to pray together.
    • Prayer Workshop/Seminar - Have local pastors/visiting speakers teach on the importance of prayer, how to pray for an hour, how to reach out to their neighbors with prayer, etc.
  • Assign team members to be in charge of each event. They will be responsible to plan the schedule of the event, organize any people needed to lead prayer or worship, prepare signs, and obtain necessary equipment (e.g. microphones, chairs). Be sure to involve as many people and churches as possible when asking people to lead prayer and worship for all of the events.
  • Provide the IWT Coordinator with a schedule of the events with times, places and themes/titles.
  • Create (needs to be approved) or obtain a bulletin insert from the IWT Office and distribute 1 month before the event.
  • Communicate with other teams, as their help is needed, for example hospitality for refreshments, ushers for crowd flow and offerings. Give the team advanced notice and details for each event. Keep in contact with them during the week(s) prior to the event to assure that everything is taken care of.
  • Confirm the venue, prayer leaders, and worship team 2 weeks before the event. If using a church, confirm use of their sound system.
  • Arrive early to greet and welcome people.
