A Plan of Attack
Please note: These job descriptions were composed for medium to large sized outreaches with Impact World Tour. For smaller events not all positions or simplified procedures might be required, please apply common sense in determining the needs for your community.
Step 1
Recruit Discipleship Representatives from each Participating Church (should be leaders who can make decisions about their church discipleship programs)
Step 2
Meet with all Discipleship Reps, Pastors, Youth Leaders & Children’s Leaders. Arrange for an IWT speaker to address the group regarding results of previous tours. Discuss the need for an effective discipleship movement beginning before the IWT events. Begin to discuss what discipleship is already happening in your city and what more is required.
Step 3
Elect members of the Strategic Discipleship Team to continue with research & planning.
Step 4
Obtain detailed maps of your city/region – for larger cities (500,000+) it will be necessary to divide them into regions before beginning the research (these should be natural divisions – e.g., political boundaries are good because research and statistics already exist for these areas).
Step 5
Make a list of all the research required and delegate team members to carry out different tasks For Example:
- Research the following information for each area/zone:
- Population – ethnicity, economic status & age breakdown
- Churches – location, ethnicity/age/special emphasis, small groups
- Schools – locations, small groups
- Local Volunteers – residence
- Local Links – residence
- Small Groups – location, age, special emphasis
Step 6
Plot as much of this information as possible on the maps. (It would be good to be able to have these maps up on the walls of the IWT office for all to see how things are going)
Step 7
Using the maps and research – identify geographical areas, cultural groups and age groups where there is not enough discipleship taking place.
Step 8
Work together with the Advanced Discipleship Team and the Church Discipleship Team to plan a strategy to fill in the areas lacking. This should still be 4 – 6 months prior to the campaign. As you get closer to the campaign you will receive more information about Local Links – continue to plot this information.
Step 9
Map out the practical steps required to achieve your goals in the time allowed – some of the things you could include are:
- Recruitment of more disciplers (in specific age groups and/or cultural groups)
- Training of disciplers
- Mentoring of disciplers
- Deliberate opportunities for group discipleship & training (e.g. youth discipleship camp)
- Abundant evangelism (training and opportunities together)
Step 10
After the Campaign Work with the Assignment Team – using the map – to connect unassigned New Believers to Churches and/or Local Links. The Assignment Team will actively link those New Believers who have no connection to a discipleship group. If there were situations where a local link cannot follow up their New Believer – then the Assignment Team would also assist with linking them to a new Local Link, or to the Advanced Discipleship Team.
Step 11
Identify areas still lacking adequate discipleship. Areas such as: specific age groups, cultural groups, ethnic groups, and niche groups. With the Advanced Discipleship Team coordinate the strategy to respond to these needs
