Student/ Youth Events Captain

sxc band nightPlease note: These job descriptions were composed for medium to large sized outreaches with Impact World Tour. For smaller events not all positions or simplified procedures might be required, please apply common sense in determining the needs for your community.

Responsibilities of the Student/ Youth Events Captain

  • Organize pre-Campaign events, encouraging youth to get involved, pray, and share their faith.
  • Organize post-Campaign rallies to gather small groups together for praise and worship, and teaching.
The Student Events Captain has the responsibility of organizing at least one pre-Campaign youth event that would encourage the youth of the churches to get involved in the Impact World Tour, and organizing 3 youth events after the Campaign week to gather all the small groups and inquirers together for a time of fellowship, followed by teaching. These events must be relevant to youth, remember that at follow–up events many of the youth will be new Christians and not accustomed to attending church. It is imperative that we make the effort to teach them about God in a way that they can relate to. Recruit Christian youth for the team to help plan and organize something relevant to their generation.

Pre-Tour Events Team

  • Work with the Impact World Tour Coordinator to set the date for at least one Pre-Campaign event. At this event, show the IWT video or commercials and explain to them what will be happening at the Impact World Tour. Talk to them about salvation and about praying for their friends and family using the Operation Andrew Cards to facilitate this.
  • In a large city it may be necessary to have events in each region so that all can attend.
  • Event Planning – consider the following as you plan each event.
    • Confirm venues for each event. Spread the events out through the city and in different denominations of churches.
    • Decide a theme for each event. Themes should focus around prayer (one event should be an Operation Andrew kick-off) and evangelism.
    • Assign a group of team members to plan and organize each event.
    • Talk to local youth pastors to schedule a speaker for each event. Again, use speakers from different churches and denominations for each event.
    • Organize good youth bands to lead worship. Bands should be contemporary and the youth should be able to relate to the music
    • Get the youth involved by having a drama, testimony, special song, etc…
    • Find local youth leaders who are willing to be emcees for the events.
    • Have youth pastors and leaders ready for any altar call during the event.
    • Confirm all details two weeks prior to the event.
    • Make a program for the event.
    • Everything should be set up and sound checks should be done.
    • Make sure the event runs smoothly and does not drag.

Post-Campaign Events Team

Work with the IWT Coordinator to plan dates for Post-Campaign events. We suggest 3 events over the coming 8 weeks (1, 3 & 8 weeks) to bring the inquirers & Christians together to have fun and learn intimacy with Jesus.
  • Focus on essential topics such as: Worship, Hearing God’s Voice, Father heart of God, The Cross and Sharing Jesus.
  • Continue the evangelism begun at the IWT event by presenting the gospel and giving a simple altar call.
  • If dates are booked before the Small Group Flyers are printed – you could place a small ad in the flyer (for city-wide events only).

Suggested Pre Tour Events:

  • Pizza or Coffee Parties
  • Concert
  • Lock-In
  • Sports Events (3-on-3 competition, games night, etc)

Suggested Post Tour Events:

  • Discipleship Camp (2 days over weekend or longer if holidays)
  • Worship night with Youth band

Please be very selective with the band that you choose for any of the above events. In the mind of the youth, a concert and a worship rally are two very different things. While any band you choose should be Christian, for a concert, it’s better to go with whatever style is popular at the time (punk rock, hip hop, pop etc.) For events that are exclusively meant for prayer and worship, the band should be contemporary and play more recent music (ask a 16 year old). It’s great to find versatile bands that can play a concert that then transitions into a worship time. Keep in mind that the way this generation worships may not look the same as older generations.

Personal Evangelism Training (optional)

Impact World Tour aims to foster personal evangelism as a lifestyle. We highly encourage local youth groups to take up the baton and be intentional about evangelism. That way students and youth have a chance to get their “feet wet” before the IWT events and get used to sharing their faith.

Suggested format

  • Aim for a Saturday morning or weeknight.
  • Invite a speaker who is passionate about evangelism, able to enthuse others and practical in the application
  • Right after the training, exercise what you learned by going out and doing it. There seems to be an endless variety of options on how to do that just make sure you do it right away, don’t wait until next day or next week.
