Mobilise student involvement in giving, serving and praying. Plan and coordinate pre- and post-tour student events with community-wide committee.

  • Spread the word to youth in your church about getting involved (as needed)
  • Actively recruit youth to serve, especially as Local Links, by sharing about IWT, distributing information and through personal invitation (1-4 hours monthly)
  • Assist in training of youth to be Local Links as helpers organisers, or instructors (3-6 hours per training session)

Youth/ Students | Chairperson

  • captains needed: Youth Events | Prayer | Youth Discipleship (please speak to the youth chairperson for a detailed job description)
  • Attend Youth planning meetings (1-4 hours a month until Tour)
  • Assist in Youth committee organisation to oversee and facilitate training, prayer, giving and discipleship opportunities for young people (event dependent)
  • Coordinate efforts with Discipleship Committee regarding youth discipleship strategies and events
  • Contact local schools and coordinate school assemblies using IWT teams (1-4 a month until Tour, on-hand during team stay)

Summary

The Youth/Young Adult Team will mobilize the young people to prayer, evangelism and discipleship. They will also contact other Youth Pastors and Workers in the region to explain the event and the opportunity that IWT offers and how they can be involved – developing a Youth leaders network. The Youth Team will work closely with the Discipleship and Children’s Teams to coordinate a comprehensive follow-up strategy.

Primary functions of the Team

  • To involve the Christian youth of this community in the Impact World Tour in crucial areas such as: Prayer, Operation Andrew, Counseling and Discipleship.
  • Present the vision and engage youth/ children’s leaders and young people in the IWT vision and events through opportunities for service, prayer and giving.
  • Facilitate and oversee the training of young people as Local Links.
  • To organize events before and after the tour - aimed at networking to involve as many youth as possible.
  • To implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy through the formation of small groups, bible studies, etc… that includes training young cell leaders and starting youth cells.
  • Assist with IWT publicity and outreach to schools and un-churched young people in the region.

Youth Discipleship Strategy

Approximately 40% of those who respond at an IWT altar call are between the ages of 12 and 18. In fact most of those who come to Christ do so before the age of 18. After that time it is increasingly difficult for people to change the way they think and live so radically.
Christian youth are therefore key for discipleship. Youth relate to their peer group and feel more comfortable talking to them. We desire to see Christian young people rise up and make a stand, by influencing their own generation for Christ. Putting their reputation on the line, by being ready to walk alongside the inquirers, encouraging them to be more Christ-like in how they live.

In an endeavor to encourage Christian young people in the discipleship of inquirers, we propose the following program. They will be part of the whole youth discipleship process. This will include praying for their un-saved friends, training to be Local Link, also training in personal evangelism and finally discipling their friends as they come to know Christ.

Suggested Timeline:

  • Youth Pastors & leaders meet with IWT Coordinator
  • To discuss & customize Discipleship strategy for city
  • Explain requirements for participating youth group
  • Introduction of IWT to students – by youth pastors
  • Student Kick Off at each youth group – sign up for involvement in teams
  • Identify existing groups in Schools & potential Youth Cell leaders (& recruit)
  • Personal Evangelism training (city-wide or youth group meeting) – this is not mandatory but highly encouraged
  • Identify & qualify new Youth Cell leaders
  • Youth Cell Leaders Training
  • Youth Cells begin
  • Phone call – reminder & recruiting by own church for Local Link Training
  • Local Link Training – possibly in Youth Cells
  • Attend IWT events
  • Discipleship Camp or Post-Campaign events

Youth Cell Leaders should be identified and recruited before Personal Evangelism training begins. They would then go through Local Link Training and Youth Cell Leaders Training immediately. Youth Cells should begin to meet before the Tour Week with all the Christian youth involved at that point. They should pray for each other and set up an accountability system as indicated at the Personal Evangelism training. All students who wish to be Local Links must attend both Personal Evangelism training and Local Links Training.

Have a monthly youth communication – such as a newsletter. This would contain articles about IWT, encouragement to continue in the discipleship process and the training sessions coming up.
